Alexandra Rose Raisman Bio

Alexandra Rose Raisman (born May 25 in 1994) is an ex-retired American artistic gymnast and two-time Olympian. She was captain of the 2012 "Fierce Five" and the 2016 "Final Five" U.S. women's Olympic gymnastics teams, which have won individual teams competitions.At the 2012 Olympics in London she took home gold medals in both team and floor competitions, in addition to the bronze medal on the balance beam, which made her the most decorated American gymnast of the Games. She also won a team gold medal during the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. Gabby Douglas and Raisman are the only Americans to win back-to-back gold medals in this event. Raisman was also awarded silver medals for individual all-around as well as the floor exercise. She is the third most decorated American gymnast in Olympic history, following Shannon Miller and Simone Biles, with six Olympic medals.Raisman was also on the gold-winning American teams at the 2011 and 2015 World Championships, and the bronze medalist of the world on floor exercise in 2011. She is also two-time champion of the national team on floor exercise (2012 in 2012 and in 2015), the 2012 national champion on the balance beam, as well as five times medalist in the all-around event at the national championships (silver in 2016, and bronze in 2012 and 2011, as well as in 2015, bronze in 2010, 2011, and). Inducted into The International Jewish Sports Hall of Fame in 2013. Raisman was born on 25 May 1994 in Needham, Massachusetts to Lynn Faber (nee Faber), who was a former high-school gymnast and Rick Raisman. She has three younger sisters: Madison, Chloe, and Brett. Raisman is Jewish, and has said, "I take a lot of satisfaction from being able to not only represent the U.S.A, but also the Jewish community everywhere. "Raisman began gymnastics when was eighteen months old. She attributes her early enthusiasm for gymnastics to the "Magnificent Seven", the gold medalists of the U.S. women's team at the 1996 Summer Olympics, whose performances she observed on VHS.She was a student at Exxcel Gymnastics and Climbing through Level 8, after which she transferred to Brestyan's American Gymnastics Club under coaches Mihai and Silvia Brestyan. Raisman graduated from Needham High School in 2012 after having completed her senior year with online classes while training for the Olympics.
